- We breed domesticated Roof Rats (Rattus rattus.) These guys make great pets. They are social and friendly like Norway rats, but gentler and less aggressive. They are also livelier and more playful, slightly smaller with a longer tail, bigger ears and eyes. They are arboreal and are better at climbing and jumping than Norway rats.
They require the same basic food and care as Norway rats. We recommend 18% protein even as adults, as they are more active, and supplement their diet with occasional seeds, nuts and dried fruit (hemp seeds and almonds are favorites.)
